Another article from BusinessWeek about the founder of Burt’s Bees, post sell out. She’s looking into 3 different business ventures, each with a social side: renovating older homes to give them new life, Happygreenbee.com uses only organically grown cotton for children’s clothes and a cooking school designed to be sold in five years.

Interesting plan, and a big one.

Most interesting question/answer:

What would you say are the biggest lessons you learned from Burt’s Bees?

…”Everybody has to win. I believe that. You will never make progress unless you fully take into consideration your opponent or adversary’s point of view and make sure their needs are met.”

That’s important to consider when you are small and starting out – smart partnering can be very effective in the long term.
